Gizmos & Gadgets Kids Lab Coding Camp is not just using blocks to code. We teach the fundamentals in “real” coding. Using JavaScript we begin at the very basics and with each day build upon those basics so that campers can fully understand what the code actually does! By the end of camp they will be familiar with java lingo!

Campers will learn about project design, object-oriented programming, console applications, graphics applications and many elements of the Java language. Numerous examples are used to demonstrate every step in the building process. The camp includes several detailed computer projects for students to build and try. These projects include a number guessing game, Tic-Tac-Toe, a simple drawing program, and simple video game.

No previous programming experience is necessary, but familiarity with doing common tasks using a computer is expected, such as using a mouse etc.

Young Engineers:

Each day kids will use the systems engineering design process to design, create and test amazing builds such as build cars, air rockets and bridges. The fun gets bigger and wilder when the camp splits into teams to build ballistic projects like catapults, marshmallow shooters and lay siege to the other team’s base in a friendly battle.

Build, Test, Battle:

This is one of our most popular camps!Using the Engineering Design Process campers will create a life-size wooden catapult. Each Camper will measure, cut and build each piece needed to create their very own take-home catapult. Campers will discuss tool safety and then be able to use real tools to build out their catapult. This includes handsaws with miter boxes, drills and electric sanders. At the end of the week campers will test their catapults by creating forts and launching water balloons!
